Continental 2011 in the south of Sweden
|
This year the Continental Sheepdog Championship will be held in Sweden. The hosts for the competition are Åsa Ramberg and Bo Milton. They are running a farm in the east of Scania (Skåne) one hour from Malmö. They have 500 ewes and the major are mixed breeds with suffolk as a base.
Bo (Bosse) has been working with trotting horses most of his life. First as a groom and blacksmith but also as a trainer and breeder. During 1980-1995 he worked with trotters in the US. He also had a farm overthere, where he kept all kind of animals but sheep. In the middle 90s he returned home to Sweden and began working as a teacher at the trotting school in Wången. There they met, Åsa and Bosse. Åsa has also been in the horse business for many years. She has been working with trotters but also with her favorite breed, the heavy, coldblooded working horses. She still has her beautiful stallion Sickel on the farm. |

In love with sheep...
After a couple of years at Wången the couple decided to move south to start working with a trotting trainer, on a farm 1h north of Stockholm.
At that time Åsa and Bosse had two dogs, a parson terrier “Kurt” and a doberman “Trixie”. This was the time when Åsa and Bosse became fascinated of bordercollies and sheep. They bought a male dog from kennel Kelliegården. “Kenta” as he is called, is now 10 years old and is still doing some work at the farm. Kenta is an eye-dog not too easy to compete with, but the best when it comes to move stubborn rams.
They began in Almunge with a handful ewes and ended up 10 years later with 400... |

They moved south... In the early 2000 Åsa and Bosse bought a farm in Scania, in the south of Sweden. Bosse is working part time as a blacksmith teacher at the equestrian school at Flyinge, also the national stud of Sweden. Åsa is working mostly in the farm. After two years in Scania they found the farm of their dreams in Andrarum and after a lot of economic calculations the dream was fulfilled when they could by the farm.
Kennel Seemework They soon realized they needed more border collies. First out was the bitch Inz, a daughter of the norweigan handler Jaran Knives successful trialdog Moel Nap. Shortly after that another bitch entered the farm, Lot, whos mother is a full sister to Moel Nap. These two bitches is now the ground for their breeding business under the kennel name Seemework. The first pups has been successfully placed with top handlers. The former Continental winner Karin Söderberg has a Lot-son with Bobby Dalziels Joe as a father. His name is Seemework Key, very promising and is already used for a number of bitches.
Next dog in the farm in Andrarum was Bosses Ben. A son of Glen and Jill who is a littermate to Karin Mattssons famous bitch Sammie. Ben is Bosses first border collie and they are really a good team both at the farm and in trials. They have participated both in the final of Swedens Novice Championship (Unghundscupen) and in the Fårfor Cup. From the last litter of Lot the couple kept a little bitch called Vite, very look-a-like to her mother and very promising. |

| Christinehof
Åsa and Bosse nowadays co-operate with their neighbour, Christinehof, who owns the most beautiful land where Åsa and Bosses sheep do a great job keeping the land open. The castle has been developed to an ecopark. You can find beautiful pictures and information at their website www.christinehofsekopark.se
Christinehof Ecopark has been created to protect, preserve and exhibit the sites and artefacts of natural and cultural value that surround Christinehof. They offer for example guided tours, safaris and fishing. They also used to have concerts in the park. Elton John is only one of the artists who has performed here...
Continental 2011
The field where the Continental is planned to be is a really beautiful area with good fields, small hills and ponds. The place was used a couple of years ago for the Nordic Championships and was highly appreciated for the exciting challenge and for the good sheep.
The work with Continental 2011 has started and you can find all information at http://continental2011.se
